The Algarve Biomedical Center (ABC) has initiated a comprehensive Advanced Life Support (ALS) training program for 40 medical interns from the Algarve University Hospital Center (ULS Algarve). This critical training aims to enhance the quality of healthcare services provided to patients across the region.

The program utilizes state-of-the-art simulation technology, allowing interns to practice emergency response techniques in a controlled and realistic environment. This approach is designed to better prepare them for high-stakes scenarios involving life-threatening conditions.

Nuno Mourão Carvalho, Director of the Department of Medical Emergency Training and Research at ABC, emphasized the importance of this hands-on training:
“Doctors train on these simulators before dealing with real-life emergency situations, and that is very important because it allows them to be better prepared. ALS is applied to patients in life-threatening conditions. These are medical situations where there is no time to think—quick decisions must be made, effective team communication is crucial, and the entire situation and all involved professionals must be led efficiently. This is what we train in this program,” he stated.

This initiative is part of ABC’s ongoing commitment to advancing medical education and improving healthcare outcomes in the Algarve region.
