The NUMAPLUS project has launched the first certified training courses in Basic Life Support with Automated External Defibrillator (BLS-AED), reinforcing the goal of making the Algarve a cardio-safe region. This step marks a significant advance in preparing the pharmaceutical community to respond effectively to cardiovascular emergencies.
The first training sessions took place on November 25, 2025, at the Algarve Surgical Simulation and Training Center (ABC), in Loulé, bringing together employees from pharmacies in Faro, Almancil and Alcantarilha, and on November 26, at the Loulé University Health Center, training health professionals from ULS Algarve.
In total, 5 Algarve pharmacies have already joined the program to train their professionals, ensuring that they have the necessary skills to act quickly in cases of cardiorespiratory arrest.
With this specialized training, the participating pharmacies become strategic points of proximity, prepared to provide immediate support to the population, increasing the probability of survival in critical situations. NUMAPLUS is a project of the Algarve Biomedical Center (ABC) in partnership with the University of Algarve (UAlg), the Algarve Local Health Unit (ULSAlg), and the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg POCTEP Spain–Portugal program, and supported by ABC Training in Medical Emergency.
Pharmacies can still join NUMAPLUS
The program is still accepting registrations. All pharmacies in the Algarve interested in joining this regional network for medical emergency training can register by emailing formacao@abcmedicalg.pt. Membership includes, completely free of charge, certified training in BLS-AED, installation of an Automated External Defibrillator and the respective AED program.
O projeto NUMAPLUS deu início às primeiras formações certificadas em Suporte Básico de Vida com Desfibrilhador Automático Externo (SBV-DAE), reforçando o objetivo de tornar o Algarve uma região cardio-segura. Esta etapa marca um avanço significativo na preparação da comunidade farmacêutica para responder de forma eficaz a emergências cardiovasculares.
As primeiras ações de formação decorreram a 25 de novembro de 2025, no Centro de Simulação e Formação Cirúrgica do Algarve (ABC), em Loulé, reunindo colaboradores de farmácias de Faro, Almancil e Alcantarilha, e no dia 26 de novembro, no Centro de Saúde Universitário de Loulé, formando profissionais de saúde da ULS Algarve.
No total, 5 farmácias algarvias já aderiram ao programa para formação dos seus profissionais, garantindo que estes dispõem das competências necessárias para atuar rapidamente em casos de paragem cardiorrespiratória.
Com esta capacitação especializada, as farmácias envolvidas tornam-se pontos estratégicos de proximidade, preparados para prestar apoio imediato à população, aumentando a probabilidade de sobrevivência em situações críticas.

O programa mantém inscrições abertas. Todas as farmácias do Algarve interessadas em integrar esta rede regional de capacitação em emergência médica podem inscrever-se através do email formacao@abcmedicalg.pt. A adesão inclui, de forma totalmente gratuita, formação certificada em SBV-DAE, instalação de um Desfibrilhador Automático Externo e respetivo programa de DAE.
